Welcome to the 1st Basingstoke Scout Group

Founded in 1909 we have been providing scouting in Basingstoke for over 100 years, our group caters for both boys and girls in all sections; Beavers age 6-8, Cubs age 8-10½ and Scouts age 10½-14, in addition we have a water activities section called 1st Afloat which offers canoeing experiences to scouting groups in the Basingstoke area.

We believe in helping our members fulfil their potential by working in teams, learning by doing and thinking for themselves.  We give people of every background the chance to stretch themselves, learn new skills and make lifelong friends.
It's all about ...

'Making life an adventure'.

So, What is Scouting?

Scouting is an organisation that was set up over 100 years ago by Lord Robert Baden-Powell, now catering for children between the ages of 6 & 25.
The purpose of scouting is to promote the development of young people in achieving their full physical, intellectual, social & spiritual potentials; as individuals, responsible citizens and as members of their local, national and international communities.
We are a uniformed organisation and all members are required to fulfil the uniform requirements of each section (see the parents Zone for further details) and make the promise which is appropriate to their age group.

Everyone, including parents can get involved.  Parental help is always sought and indeed is essential to the success of the sections.  A high majority of leaders are parents who started out by just helping out now and again but got hooked on hte fun and adventure of scouting and wanted to get involved.
You really can, it's not just for kids you know!  Leaders have a lot of fun too.
